According to reports over at Bloomberg and Insider Gaming, Ubisoft and Tencent are partnering up to create a brand new business that will release new games in popular IPs the former owns.

The suggestion is that this is the solution to Ubisoft’s financial struggles. Tencent can help fund new releases while the Ubisoft leadership, including Yves Guillemot, retain creative control of their own business.

Reportedly, Ubisoft is currently working on multiple Assassin’s Creed projects, including new entry Hexe, a remake, and a brand new RPG-style entry.

That’s alongside Far Cry 7, The Division 3, a Rayman remake, and Beyond Good and Evil 2. Put simply, Ubisoft is a busy bee at the moment.

So, Which IPs Could Make a Return?

According to the reports, Ubisoft is still deciding which properties make the most sense to move to the new business. Presumably, it won’t involve any that Ubisoft is currently working on.

That includes the likes of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Ghost Recon, and The Division. Presumably, Rayman and Splinter Cell would remain at Ubisoft too, as both are undergoing the remake treatment.

We’d also rule out Beyond Good and Evil 2, given that game is also in development.

So what does that leave? Well, quite frankly, not much. There are a few key properties that could make a strong comeback though, including Prince of Persia, Watch Dogs, and The Crew.

What’s in the Ubisoft Archives?

Digging into the archives, there are many more exciting opportunities. The Driver series could come back as a major GTA competitor and Brothers in Arms could do the same for Call of Duty.

Might and Magic is another long dormant franchise that could ride on the classic RPG bandwagon that’s helped the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 succeed.

Lastly, there are a few niche titles that we’d like to see return. Perhaps Red Steel could return on Switch 2, or we could get a new entry in the Call of Juarez series that could put some pressure on Red Dead?

The sky’s the limit.
