Sony’s live service struggles continue, as a report over on ResetEra claims that the upcoming Horizon (of Zero Dawn and Forbidden West fame) MMO has been cancelled. This was under development over at NCSoft, and is a separate project from the Guerilla-developed multiplayer game currently in the works.

The news comes via the Korean news outlet MTN, who held an interview with NCSoft earlier this month. During the interview, NCSoft revealed that a number of games have been cancelled following a “feasibility report”.

These include Pantera, which is understood to be the codename for ‘Raise Lineage M’, and two undisclosed titles. Those went by the codewords ‘H’ and ‘J’, with the former believed to refer to the Horizon MMO. The jury is out on what the ‘J’ stands for.

MTN believes that the decision was made back in December, 2024. Since then, all job listings for Project H have been taken offline, and key team members have left the company.

MTN does clarify that members of the development team will receive internal transfers. Hopefully these cancellations don’t coincide with yet another round of industry layoffs.

What Was the Horizon MMO?

Project H, or the Horizon MMO, began development in 2022 as a multiplayer version of the series we know and love. Guerilla is understood to have wanted a multiplayer component in the first and second entries, but it was scrapped so the team could focus on the rest of the game.

Little is known about the secret Horizon MMO though, and, the reality is, it might not have got very far in development after just two years.

It’s also separate from the Horizon online game that Guerilla is reportedly developing. Again, not much is known about that other than it would feature a stylised visual style and a different cast of characters.
